DMP Club - Meeting #3

This week was a fun and informative one indeed! And it all started with the two folks who showed up jumping in a car to drive to Glazer's Camera in downtown Seattle.

We got there around 11am and took the first 45 minutes or so to browse around the whole store to check out all the various areas and gear they have on the shelves. From Olympus, Sony, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic on through to the Leica, Pentax, Hasselblad, Zeiss, and all the other exotic, lomo, and photography gear one could dream about. The video section had a few gems as well in the Canon C100 with a Canon Cinema lens mounted on it. Lots of peripheral gear, like external monitors, fluid head tripods, dolly systems, and audio equipment. It is always cool to see what's out there!

We each fiddled around with a couple cameras that caught our attention before heading over to the separate lighting store across the street. That was another impressive array of gear and equipment of a different type... all of the behind the scenes stuff from lighting to sandbags. Another excellent resource for sure.

Then we headed to the rental store around the corner for a low-down on the rental process and looked at their list of some of what is available. The place basically has everything you could possibly need if you can't borrow it from the school(at a fair price according to rental rates, no less!). Here is their complete list of the current gear and pricing:

It is definitely nice to know there is such an excellent resource so close to school. I know we are all poor students, and affording most of the goodies you can find there is certainly not easy at the moment, but getting a good idea of what is out there and planning for the future is always a good idea!

DMP Club - Meeting #2

Well... I would suppose that 'meeting' implies that multiple people showed up... I don't know what you call it when it's only me. Ha.

Anyway, no worries, things are still moving forward. Next week, no matter how many people attend(online or otherwise), I will start work on a web series specifically created by the club for the club. It will basically be an archive of simply interviews, documentaries, commercials, and the like which will keep us busy and motivated whenever we are somehow short on other ideas to take advantage of(which would be strange in the first place!)

Now I am off to Glazer's to see if it might be a good place for a club field trip. Hope the weekend is as good for y'all as it will be for me!

This is a great interview from one director to another about variously interesting things surrounding the film-making experience. Enjoy!

DMP Club - Meeting #1

Good morning one and all! Happy Groundhogs Day, even!

So, it looks like the club is off to a splendid start with a whopping TWO whole people(Efren and Aaron) in attendance for our first meeting ever! This is a 100% increase in attendance from my personal DMP activities so that's pretty much awesome. Plus, way more donuts for me!

Anyway, I am looking forward to our upcoming meetings where we can slowly get the gears turning in our favor.

The first of many meetings to come!

This is just a post to get things kicked off in a similar way that tomorrow's meeting will. We are all in school to learn something new, gain experience, and someday make a buck or two using the skills we have acquired, and I believe the DMP Club will definitely be a great tool toward accomplishing that goal.

The first meeting will not be anything too fancy. We would be well served to get to know each other better, as well as the club function as a whole, and that is basically all that we have on the docket for that time. It will be fairly brief but very helpful and the more people who show up the better off we will all be as a club.

I might dig around the dollar store for some light snacks if I get the time today but don't be surprised if they're not the healthiest options around.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing/meeting you all tomorrow! Until then, have a grand Friday the 1st!

This is a fantastic little short that tons of good stuff can be learned from. I know that most of us are not planning to animate anything anytime soon, but the cinematography, story, sound, and lighting are all excellent examples of high-quality work that we should like to emulate. I hope you find this little short as amusing as I did, beyond it's excellent delivery of the technical "goods", so to speak.
